This policy covers damianhartin.com. I run the site myself, and it only touches your details in two ways: the analytics that count visits, and any email you send me.
The short version
- I use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read. It sets cookies in your browser.
- No advertising trackers, and no other scripts.
- If you email me, I keep what you send only as long as I need it to reply and follow up.
- I don't sell your details or add you to a mailing list.
- Email info@damianhartin.com any time to see, fix or delete what I hold about you.
What I collect
When you visit any page: like every website, the host receives the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. These sit in the host's server logs for a short while. I don't use them to identify you.
Google Analytics 4 also records each visit: the pages you look at, the page or search that sent you here, how long you stay, and what kind of device, browser and screen you're on. It uses your IP address to place the visit roughly, to the city, then discards it. It sets cookies in your browser, named _ga and _ga_ followed by an id, that last up to two years, so it can tell a return visit from a new one. I only ever see this as totals and patterns, and I don't use it to identify you.
When you email me: whatever you choose to put in the email.
Cookies and analytics
The only cookies on this site are the ones Google Analytics 4 sets, described above. There's no advertising, no retargeting and no other tracking script. If you'd rather not be counted, block cookies for damianhartin.com in your browser, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Who handles it for me
A few services handle your details for me, and only to do the jobs listed here:
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Google runs Google Analytics 4, which counts visits as described above. Google processes that data on its own systems, in the United States, under its own privacy policy.
- Microsoft 365 holds my mailbox, info@damianhartin.com. Its data is stored in Australia, and only I have access to it.
Beyond that, I don't share your details with anyone, unless the law requires me to.
Details sent overseas
Vercel and Google are based in the United States, so the technical details of your visit may be handled there. My mailbox stays in Australia.
How long I keep it
I keep emails for as long as I need them to reply and follow up, then delete them. Ask me and I'll delete yours sooner.
Seeing, fixing or deleting your details
Email info@damianhartin.com and tell me what you'd like. I'll reply within 30 days, and there's no charge.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your details, email info@damianhartin.com first and I'll try to put it right. If I can't, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If I change how I handle your details, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
