Professional Summary

My career started at Crown Casino in 1994, giving 24x7 technical support to systems the casino couldn't run without: the help desk, OS/2 systems, mainframe administration and network infrastructure. Working across that many technologies, somewhere the stakes were high, taught me early how tightly technology and the business are tied together.

At EDS I managed the mainframe systems behind Telstra Multimedia's Foxtel CMS and billing. That's where I learnt large-scale system administration, and what it takes to keep a business running when something goes wrong. From there I moved to Clayton Utz, one of Australia's leading law firms, where I led national development teams and shaped the business applications the firm's legal practice ran on.

Consulting then took me into energy. For Origin Energy and ERM Power I ran complex data migrations on systems managing over 50 billion rows of data, and kept that data intact.

In 2011 I founded Hartsco, the consultancy I still run. It began as Hartsco Technology Solutions, doing consulting and software development for the energy sector and many other industries, and for two years I spun a home automation business out of it. From 2019 to 2024 I was owner and CTO of a manufacturing company. I brought modern technology into traditional manufacturing and built an export business across three product lines, serving the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. That meant building and leading a team with a wide mix of skills, where technical know-how worked alongside skilled manufacturing craftsmanship.

These days my focus is AI. I build software with AI coding tools, the approach people now call vibe coding. I also help businesses put AI to work inside the systems they already depend on. That means connecting it to their data and automating the repetitive work, without breaking anything that keeps the business running.
